David Yarian Ph.D. practices on Music Row in Nashville, specializing in adult psychotherapy, couples therapy, and sex therapy. He has over thirty years’ experience, and loves his work. He is privileged to work with interesting people from all walks of life who wish to craft a more satisfying life for themselves.
Dr. Yarian received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1982. His dissertation was Continuity and Change: The Impact of Deaths on a Family System Over Five Generations. His training was primarily focused on psychodynamic approaches to individual psychotherapy.
Continuing Professional Education
Following graduate school, David Yarian Ph.D. pursued continuing education in the rapidly-developing field of family therapy, studying and training with nationally prominent practitioners such as Murray Bowen, MD, Salvador Minuchin, MD, Frank Pittman, MD, Carl Whitaker, MD, Jamshed Morenas, MSW, Lynn Hoffman, Ph.D., Jay Haley, and Monica McGoldrick, Ph.D.
Dr. Yarian has pursued further training in group therapy, couples therapy, somatic approaches to psychotherapy, mindfulness training, yoga, meditation, and recovery from childhood trauma.
David Yarian PhD has studied Tantra with acclaimed teachers Margo Anand, Charles and Caroline Muir, Kosha Pati, Sohini Genevieve, and Daniel Odier. He became an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist in 2004 and has studied extensively with leading sexologists.
Philosophy and Approach
Dr. Yarian brings to his practice a compassionate spirit. He believes that we are all in it together, and that most of the time, most of us are doing the best we can. None of us had a perfect childhood or perfect luck, and we bear the marks of our painful experiences. He believes there is a trajectory towards health and thriving that exists in each of us, despite our suffering, disillusionment, and despair.
David Yarian PhD works to help each person find and believe in their unique strengths; clarify their hopes, dreams, and yearnings; and craft a path that leads them more directly towards their goals.
